How to Reduce Waste During the Holiday Season

November 11, 2022

What’s one thing that makes our hearts grow three times their size at CGM? Reducing waste! With the holidays upon us, there are SO many opportunities to be more sustainably responsible by reducing waste. We’ve listed a few options below on the different ways our team will practice sustainability this merry season. We invite you to check them out and join us!

Holiday Lights
Holiday lights not working? Bah humbug! The good news is you don’t have to throw them out. Check out your city’s recycling program to see if they have a drop-off location OR bring them to CGM and we will recycle them for you!

Live Christmas Trees
Many waste haulers offer free curbside pickup the week or two following Christmas – Check with your service to see when yours will be picking up.

Holiday Shopping
Reduce waste by using your own reusable shopping bags instead of plastic bags.

People receive lots of catalogs during the holiday season – don’t forget to recycle them, but also take this opportunity to call the company’s 800 number and ask to be removed from the mailing list.

Ready to send your annual holiday card? Look for ones made from recycled paper.

Skip the paper and give gifts of experience! We’ve dropped a few of our favorite “experiences” below:

Entertainment: concerts, sports, movies, golf, bowling, theater, escape room, museum, restaurants, zoo, state parks

Classes: cooking, dance, sports, music, coding, art, trainer

Time: House cleaner, car wash, massage, manicure/pedicure, yard service, date night, car wash/service

HOT TIP: Keep your holiday cards to reuse – cut them into gift tags!

At the Table
Skip the paper plates and plastic silverware. Instead, use cloth tablecloths and napkins!

Wrapping Gifts
Instead of metallic wrapping paper, go for craft paper which can be recycled after. Looking to explore your creative side? Use a tea towel, scarf, or a blanket to wrap your item! A gift wrapped in a gift? DOUBLE WIN!

The Gift that Keeps on Giving
Our team at CGM is committed to practicing sustainability every moment we can. We hope that this holiday season, you’ll join us! Don’t underestimate the power you have. Small changes make a big impact and it’s up to us to make it happen.
