CGM Spotlight: Tom Jaynes (TJ)
How long have you been with CGM?
I have been with CGM for just under 3 months.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
My career has been running manufacturing plants with little exposure to the customer, sales and the end-use of the product. In the short time I’ve been with CGM, it has been great to have contact with this side of the business. It is impressive to see firsthand, the care we take in not only keeping our customer’s production lines running with reliable equipment and product delivery, but truly partnering with them for long-term success.
Tell us the weirdest anecdote you have about glue.
My 9-year-old daughter’s recipe for the best “Cloud9 Slime” = Elmer’s Glue + Dash of Baking Soda + Tbls Saline Solution + Copious Amount of Shaving Cream + Blue Food Color. Adjust your proportions to meet your desired preference of fluffy or sticky!
Set the scene – What does a typical Saturday look like for you?
As a single Dad, weekends are constantly on the run. Saturdays always start with a weekly sugar cereal treat for the kids, while I get the laundry started and groceries ordered over coffee. Then off to daughter’s gymnastics, pick up groceries on the way home, finish laundry, go to son’s flag football game, watch the rest of the Buckeye game, yard/housework, cook for the week, chill time, storytime, and finally bedtime.
What motto do you live by?
E + R = O (Event + Response = Outcome) In our daily life, we are constantly participating in events. The effectiveness of the outcome depends directly on how we decide to respond. The more effort, openness to new ideas and collaboration we employ, determines the quality of that outcome.
What is your go-to snack?
Pistachios! Once I get going, I cannot stop cracking those shells.
Who is your superhero?
My superhero is Gary Vaynerchuk because I admire people who persist in making their vision a reality. Gary Vee is an entrepreneur who has created a marketing empire, a sports agency, a wine brand and most recently a successful NFT project. Everything he does is based on hard work, positivity, empathy and the relentless persistence of his vision.
What is your special/hidden talent or hobby?
I’m a percussionist at heart. Please excuse my tapping.
Where is your favorite vacation spot? Tell us about it.
Anywhere with snow-capped mountains! I love to hike and ski at high altitudes. The Lauterbrunnen Valley, located high in the Swiss Alps, is my favorite so far.
What’s your favorite movie or TV show?
My first job was as a movie theater concessionist for AMC. I’ve always loved the movies and I’m a big fan of films with twisted endings or great storytelling. Some of my favorites are Memento (Christopher Nolan at his best), Heat (Pacino & DeNiro), The Departed (Scorsese!) and L.A. Confidential (writing masterpiece).
