Streamline with the SKID-LOCK™ System
Palletizing and unitizing products without generating a lot of waste from the stretch wrap, strapping, and corner boards are often a challenge many distributors and manufacturers face. You want to be able to load and unload your products efficiently without damaging them, but you also want to be a good steward of our planet. Sounds like you may have a problem, right? Enter SKID-LOCK™ palletizing and unitizing system, a sustainable solution that allows you to improve the stability of unitized loads all while significantly reducing (or even eliminating!) the reliance on traditional packaging materials like stretch wrap, strapping, and corner boards.
Did you mention sustainability?
We sure did. Regulations regarding the use of plastics and other materials in distribution are changing daily. On top of that, consumers are also looking to buy from manufacturers and distributors who are working to help, not harm, the planet. SKID-LOCK™ products are a planet-friendly option that helps to reduce or eliminate traditional packaging materials entirely. It’s a water-based, non-toxic adhesive that leaves little to no residue on the product, so it doesn’t affect the recyclability of the container. The best part is that it produces no waste. Zip. Zilch.
Tell me about the cost savings.
With SKID-LOCK™ reducing (or completely eliminating) the amount of packaging materials and labor needed for distribution, it’s possible to have savings of 50% or more when integrating it into your facility.
Will it work for my application?
SKID-LOCK™ offers a versatile solution for nearly every application, including recycled cartons, varnished or heavily inked stock, and even plastic bags or shrink-wrapped items. All ingredients used in SKID-LOCK™ are FDA-approved for indirect food contact, making them suitable for use with packaged food products. It’s suitable for use in environments ranging from just above freezing in refrigerated settings to hot, non-air-conditioned conditions.
For a successful bond, SKID-LOCK™ must be applied to a dry surface. When using on products that require freezing, we recommend the product be able to set for about an hour once SKID-LOCK™ is applied for complete drying time before being placed in a freezer.
So, how does SKID-LOCK™ work?
We’re so glad you asked. The SKID-LOCK™ process consists of three steps.
Application: SKID-LOCK™ is applied to the top of each item before palletizing. You can apply SKID-LOCK™ using one of three types of manual or automatic adhesive applicators.
Bonding: Packages are placed on the pallet or slip sheet, where a unique adhesive bond forms. The setting time depends on the type of SKID-LOCK™ formula used, the method and amount of application, and the characteristics of the load itself. This bond boasts high shear strength, ensuring stability during side-to-side motion in transit, and low tensile strength, allowing for easy up-and-down movement. In cases when the product is low-weight or a shape that requires the load to be columnar stacked, a reduced amount of stretch wrap may be necessary to ensure stability.
Separation: Upon delivery, the bond breaks cleanly when the package is picked up, leaving no damage or residue on the packaging.
