Serving Those Who Have Served

At Chicago Glue and Machine, we believe in showing up for our community. Each year, we choose a local cause that resonates deeply with our team, and this year’s charity is especially close to our hearts.
Melissa Shomo, one of our team members, shares why supporting veterans through Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans (MSHV) is so important:
“I come from a family with deep military roots—my dad, brother, husband, uncles, cousins, and friends have all served. I’ve witnessed the bravery of those deployed, like my brother’s unit in Iraq, and the emotional toll it takes on families left behind. From tearful goodbyes to weekly calls and care packages, we rallied together to support each other through it all.
But I’ve also seen the darker side, veterans returning home to find their families gone, their bank accounts emptied, and their support systems shattered. The emotional weight of deployment, combined with the lack of resources and stigma around seeking help, can lead to a very dark place.
Supporting our veterans, even in small ways, is the least we can do for those who’ve given so much for us.”
MSHV provides housing, supportive services, and outreach to help homeless and at-risk veterans and their families achieve self-sufficiency. Their mission is simple but powerful: No Hero Left Behind
